What Is an IP and Hosting Checker?

An IP and hosting checker resolves a domain's A record to its IP address, then performs a reverse lookup and ASN query to identify the hosting provider, server location, and network operator. For SEO, where you host matters for local search relevance, Core Web Vitals, and — for link builders — identifying shared hosting footprints.

Server Location and Local SEO

Google uses server IP geolocation as one signal for determining geographic relevance. A UK-targeted site hosted on US servers isn't penalized, but hosting closer to your audience reduces physical latency, improving TTFB and Core Web Vitals scores. CDNs solve this at scale by serving from edge nodes near the visitor.

IP Neighborhood Analysis for PBN Detection

Link builders use reverse IP lookups to check whether multiple domains share a server. A C-class IP subnet with dozens of similar-looking sites is a PBN footprint signal. When evaluating backlinks, run IP checks on linking domains to identify whether apparent diversity actually resolves to the same hosting environment.

An ASN (Autonomous System Number) identifies the network operator managing a block of IP addresses. Knowing the ASN tells you whether traffic routes through a CDN, a major cloud provider, or a traditional hosting company.
Use our Reverse IP Lookup tool. If dozens of unrelated domains share the same IP, it's shared hosting. Dedicated or cloud hosting typically shows 1–5 domains per IP. High IP density can be a negative footprint signal for link networks.
